MPL 2014: Rules, Player Retentions, and the likes

With MPL 2014, we are changing the structure of the tournament by adding a fifth team. As a result, we are changing rules as applicable to how a team captain is selected, and how many player’s are retained. Also changing is how much money a team has left, for the player’s auction, after having retained player’s.

New Captain

Ankit, Mayank, Rafeeq, Rahul,

Leaders of legions of super heroes. You have one last duty as the captain of your respective MPL 2013 super hero teams. That duty is to transfer the title of captain to someone on your squad from MPL 2013. You have till end of day Wednesday – June 4th – to announce the new captain. Any of the captain’s from MPL 2013 can stay on as the captain for MPL 2014.

Player Retention

The new captain will then select two more people from his team’s MPL 2013 squad. Thus, each team will have a core of three players heading into the player’s auction.

Each of the four team’s will, instead of having a ‘Fantastic Four’, have their own ‘Three Musketeers’, this year.

The new captain, in turn, has till end of day Monday – June 9th – to announce the three members who will form the ‘Three Musketeers’ of each team.

NOTE: It is no longer mandatory for the captain of each team from the previous MPL season to stay back. it is up to the incoming/new captain to decide on retaining the outgoing captain.

Why ‘Three Musketeers’ instead of ‘Fantastic Four’?

Allowing for the retention of only three player’s per MPL 2013 team, will in effect release some of the start players from these teams. This in turn allows us to form a strong core of ‘Three Musketeers’ for the fifth team.

The fifth MPL team

Once the ‘Three Musketeers’ of each team has been announced, the MPL committee will scout, out and hand-select a captain for the fifth team.

This captain will then have a chance to select any two player’s towards forming the ‘Three Musketeers’ of his team. All player’s that form the ‘Three Musketeers’ of the fifth team, must have played in MPL 2013.

The name of the fifth team, per the poll in our Facebook group, will be ‘Transformers’.

Team Purse at the Player’s auction

The average stock price of each player retained by each of the five teams, including that of the captain, will be subtracted from the team’s auction purse. Thus at the start of the auction, based on the player’s retained, each team will have a different bank balance to purchase the services of any given player.

In MPL 2013 each team had a purse of $135 entering the auction. The total purse for each team for MPL 2014 will be announced prior to the player’s auction $110.
