MPL XI PLAYERS AUCTION

The 2019 season of the MathWorks Premier League (MPL), will be it’s 11th edition. We will do things a little different during this 2019 pre-season.

The festivities of the Awards Night to recognize the Champions of MPL X, along with the runners-up, and some of the individual award winners, will start on the evening on Tuesday, April 30th 2019, at 6 PM.

The Players Auction for MPL XI will follow the presentation of the Awards. The Auction itself is being done a little differently, as compared to previous years. We will only have the ‘open auction’ segment of the MPL XI Players Auction on the 30th of April.

The ‘general auction’ segment will follow on a later date – likely during the last few days of May, right before MPL XI starts on June 3rd, 2019.

We have a few other ‘Special Agenda Items’ along with some ‘Very Special People’ who will be present for the festivities of the evening. April 30th 2019 will be a special evening for the MathWorks Cricket Club.

MPL XI: Open Auction

  • 1.0: Each of the six teams in MPL XI get a total purse of $101 to start with – for the ‘open auction’ and ‘general auction’.
  • 1.1: The ‘Average Stock Price’ of the captain of each of the six teams, and the player retained by the captains of the six teams is deducted from the purse of each team.
  • 1.2: Each of the six teams currently have a squad of two players – and are expected to have a squad of potentially 13-15.
  • 1.3: A total of 18 players will be up during the ‘Open Auction’ segment of the MPL XI.
  • 1.3.1: 12 out of these 18 players will be nominated by the MPLBuzz Facebook community. A poll will be conducted, where the top-12 voted players will enter the ‘Open Auction’ segment of MPL XI. The poll will run between Tuesday, April 23rd and end of day Thursday, April 26th.
  • 1.3.2: The MPL XI Captains will then each nominate six more players – via email – ranking each of the six players they want present in the ‘open auction’ on a scale of 1 (lowest weighted rank) through 6 (highest weighted rank). MPL XI Captains will be required to submit their list, via email, by end-of-day Saturday, April 27th.
  • 1.3.3: The combined list of 18 players to be a part of the ‘open auction’ will be announced by Monday, April 29th.
  • 1.4: At the start of the Player’s Auction, the team to nominate the first player will be chosen randomly.
  • 1.5: The player nominated will be auctioned off via open-bidding.
    • 1.5.1: Each of the six teams will bid and counter-bid each other, until one team emerges with a bid than no other team raises.
    • 1.5.2: Thus, the team that bids the highest will receive the services of the player who was auctioned.
  • 1.6: The team to the immediate left of the team that nominated the first player, will then nominate a player for open-bidding.
    • 1.6.1: 1.5.1 and 1.5.2 will then apply.
  • 1.7: Each of the six teams can pick-up a maximum of 10 players through the ‘open auction’.
  • 1.8: The default minimum bid for each player will be $1.
  • 1.9: All the players need to be bought at a min. price of $1.
  • 1.9.1: If a team has 7 players in the squad and $20 left in its pool, then the maximum it can bid for the 8th player is [$20 – (min players – current players + 1) => 20 – (14 – 7) + 1 => $14].

MPL XI: Closed Auction

  • 1.0: The MPL XI Closed Auction will be held on Tuesday, May 21st, 2019 – starting at 6 PM.
  • 1.1: Each of the six teams in MPL XI will continue with their cash balance from the MPL XI Open Auction.
    • 1.1.1: Avengers will bring forward $18.
    • 1.1.2: Incredibles will bring forward $16.
    • 1.1.3: Justice League will bring forward $37.
    • 1.1.4: Suicide Squad will bring forward $29.
    • 1.1.5: Transformers will bring forward $15.
    • 1.1.6: X-Men will bring forward $40.
  • 1.2: The team to nominate the first player for the Closed Auction section will be selected by a trivia question.
    • 1.2.1: The team to the immediate left of the team that nominated the first player, will then nominate a player for open-bidding.
    • 1.2.2: This will continue in a clock-wise manner.
  • 1.3: Each player will be nominated for a default price of $1.
    • 1.3.1: Silent bidding will ensue.
    • 1.3.2: Once all the six bids are in, the Auctioneer will reveal the individual bids.
    • 1.3.3: If multiple teams submit the same bid for a player, these teams alone will enter an open-bidding auction for the services of the nominated player.
    • 1.3.4: The team to submit their bid first, gets the opening bid at that price, while the other team(s) will be required to raise their bid to stay in the auction for the player.
  • 1.4: Price-Match Card: Each team will receive one ‘Price-Match Card’. The ‘Price Match Card’ can be used by a team that was outbid in the initial silent bidding, to then get back into the open-bidding for the player.
    • 1.4.1: If Team-A bids $2 for player Foo, and Team-B bids $4 for the same player, then Team-A can play their ‘Price-Match Card’ to get back into the open-bidding for player Foo.
    • 1.4.2: By playing their ‘Price-Match Card’, Team-A increases their bid for player Foo from $2 to $5.
    • 1.4.3: At this point Team-A and Team-B will enter into open-bidding for player Foo.
