The ‘Fantasy Cricket Stock Exchange (FCSE)‘ as a concept was born during spring of 2013 – implemented and deployed for MPL 2013. The Fantasy Cricket aspect included ‘stocks’ (players) being reevaluated, based on their performance on the field.
The ‘Fantastic Four’ were the four members retained by each team, from among their MPL 2012 season squads for the MPL 2013 season. The ‘Offer Price’ for members of the ‘Fantastic Four’ was preset at $20, $18, $16, and $14 – the member of a team’s ‘Fantastic Four’ with the highest points tally in MPL 2012 was assigned the highest price, and so on.
As we review performance of players in MPL 2013 from a stock perspective, captured below are some of the key data-points for each stock
- ‘Offer Price‘: Price paid for a player’s service at the “Player’s Auction” for MPL 2013
- ‘Closing‘: Stock price for the given player after his last match in MPL 2013
- ‘Low‘: Lowest price point for this stock
- ‘Peak‘: Highest price point for this stock
- ‘Average‘: Average price point for this stock
- ‘*’: Indicates a player who was part of “Fantastic Four” of the respective teams in MPL 2013
Please refer to the 'Notes' at the end of this post for more context on what the price points represent

Amol excelled early on, which drove his stock price up to $30.46 – the highest ‘Peak’ for any player in MPL 2013. Aravind, Ankit, Arun, Vijay, and Vivek chipped in, but there wasn’t enough support for Amol, when compared to the ‘Average’ for batsmen across the Incredibles and X-Men.
Two players – Amol and Arun – had a ‘Peak’ greater than $20. Amol the only player with a ‘Low’ greater than $10.

Chirag, Dipesh, Priyank, Rahul and Shreenath lead the team with multiple strong performances. They were ably supported by Nachiketh, Abhijeet B and Mohit.
Five players – Chirag, Dipesh, Priyank, Rahul and Shreenath – had a ‘Peak’ greater than $20. Chirag, Dipesh and Rahul around the $25 mark, with Priyank and Shreenath having a ‘Peak’ value of $28.26.
Three players – Chirag, Priyank, and Rahul – had a low greater than $10, with Rahul at $15.45 and Priyank at $18.25. The higher the ‘Low’, the more consistent the player’s performances on the field.

Kaushik, similar to Amol, was the lone star for his team, with consistent quality performances through the season. Abhijit W, Ganesh I, Milind, had a few key performances reflected by their respective ‘Peak’.
However, similar to the Avengers, Kaushik lacked sufficient support, as reflected by only two players – Ganesh and Kaushik having a ‘Peak’ greater than $20.
Again, similar to the Avengers, Kaushik was the only player with a ‘Low’ greater than $10 – $17.41 in his case.

Pritish, Rafeeq, and Yashwanth were the pillars of the team with key performances throughout the season. They were ably supported by Anil, Ganesh K, Koundinya, and Rohith.
Three players – Pritish, Rafeeq, and Yashwanth – had a ‘Peak’ greater than $20. Anil’s ‘Peak’ of $30 isn’t valid as that was also his ‘Offer Price’.
Yashwanth was the only player with a ‘Low’ greater than $10, albeit Rafeeq with a ‘Low’ of $9.36.
Anuj, who played a crucial knock in the MPL final, had a peak of $9.91, achieved in the MPL final.

Notes:
- By nature stock prices were volatile – up and down during the evaluations. Consider an example where the stock prices for two players are at $10 and $20 entering a match, both score a first-ball duck, and do not have any other point earning opportunities. Their stock values as a result drop, but the price-point prior to the match means that they won’t both drop to the same price point, post match. Thus it takes time – multiple matches and performances on the field – for a given stock to reach a certain price point.
- The ‘Closing Price’ is a reflection of where the stock value ended at after the player’s last match – taken in line with the ‘Average’, it indicates how the player performed in/heading into his last match of the season.
- Those who played as an all-rounder had chances to push and maintain their stock value around or over the $20 mark. Thus player’s who performed a single role – either as a batsman or as a bowler – did well if their stock price was around or over $10.
