Avengers @ X-Men, July 30 2015:
Match Summary:
Avengers won the toss and chose to bat. A good start by the top-order, provided a platform for a big score – Avengers got to 42/3 in 7.4 overs, and were eyeing a score in excess of 75.
The bowlers from X-Men struggled with their line and length, and subsequently leaked extras. X-Men kept changing the bowlers, and tightened things up in the next few overs, as the Avengers’ batting folded for 61 in 13.3 overs, leaving three deliveries on the table.
Chasing 62 for a win in their allotted 14 overs, the openers for X-Men provided the ideal start – 29 in 6.1 overs – before the first wicket fell. They lost a few more wickets along the way, but wrapped up the chase in 12.4 overs, winning by 6 wickets.
X-Men with eight points via four wins, moved closer to locking up the second spot in the MPL 2015 – Team Standings. Avengers while fifth in the standings, are only two points (one win) out of the the third and fourth spot teams – Justice League and Incredibles. Their NRR however (-1.499) may leave them with too much to make up with only two matches pending.
Player Spotlight:
Rohith lead the way for the X-Men as he secured a career best 5/5 in his three overs – 3-0-5-5. His strikes derailed the Avengers batting, and ensured his team didn’t have much to chase.
This is also the best bowling figure for any bowler in MPL – pushing Mayank’s 7/5 and Sreeram’s 8/5 down a spot.
Koundinya played his part with the ball well, but didn’t get any wickets as a reward – 2-0-4-0. Aditya earned two wickets, but they proved expensive – 1.3-0-13-2.
Ankit D, Pritish and Surya – 12(18), 9(18), 11(22) respectively – played good knocks for the Avengers, but neither could convert a strong start into a tall score.
Dhruv was the key in providing the X-Men batting a rollicking start, as he made 25(30), including two boundary hits, before stepping aside – retired hurt, with the team score on 47/2 in 10 overs – to provide other batsmen a chance to get a few runs.
Krishna and Anoop made they opportunities with the bat count fo 8(18) and 9(11) respectively.
Rushil was the only Avengers bowler to make an impression – 3-0-10-2.

Plays of the day:
- Scattered thunderstorms was the projected forecast for the match. The rains arrived during the second half of the Avengers’ batting, and proceeded to get heavier. A discussion ensued about either waiting for the rains to pass, or to call of the match completely – any match called off would be replayed from scratch. Rohith, captain of X-Men, had taken three wickets by this time and mentioned that if he is able to get a five wicket haul, the match should continue. The rest, as they say, is history.
