Pick’em Reboot

Background

“Pick’em” launched in 2013, is among our oldest, and has been a very popular Fantasy Cricket game.

For the uninitiated, Pick’em is a Fantasy Cricket game. The goal of playing Pick’em is to ‘pick’ the winner of a given match – to try and correctly predict which of the two teams in a match will win the given match.

You can submit your picks for all scheduled matches at the start of the season, and have the ability to change your Pick repeatedly without penalty during the season. Your Pick, for a given match and ability to change your Pick for a given match are locked at the scheduled start time for the match in question.

You earned two points for every correct Pick, and zero points for each incorrect Pick. Correct Picks for Playoff matches earned you four points.

The Pick’em player with the most points at the end of the tournament won Pick’em.

Reboot

There were two areas of improvement in the Pick’em game-flow.

  1. You only got two points for any number of correct Picks in a row.
  2. If you fell behind in the Pick’em standings, catching up to the leaders was very difficult.

With these two areas of improvement in mind, the following changes have been incorporated into Pick’em.

  1. All correct Picks will earn four Base Points’. This is applicable to matches in the round-robin stages, and during the Playoff’s.
  2. You will earn a ‘Streak Bonus’ – bonus points for a streak of correct picks. The ‘Streak Bonus’ is directly tied to the number correct Picks in row that you have made correctly.

You earn ‘Streak Bonus’ for every correct Pick, and is  evaluated as ‘current streak of correct Picks, minus 1’.

Example 1 – Three correct Picks in a row

Let’s walk-through a scenario where you get three correct Picks in a row.

For the first correct Pick, you earn four points. If you Pick correctly for the subsequent match, you earn four base points, and one streak point. If you again make the correct Pick, for three correct picks in a row, you will earn four base points, plus two streak points.

Thus after three matches, you would have earned 4 + (4+1) + (4+2)  = 15 points.

Example 2 – Four correct Picks across Five Matches

If your streak of correct Picks is broken by an incorrect Pick, then your streak is reset to zero.

Thus if after three correct Picks, you get an incorrect Pick, followed by a correct Pick, you earn 4 + (4+1) + (4+2) + 0 + 4 = 19 points after five matches.

Washed out matches do NOT impact your Streak

Your streak is not interrupted or impacted by matches that are washed out.

Thus if after three correct Picks, the fourth match is washed out, followed by another correct Pick, you earn  4 + (4+1) + (4+2) + 0 + (4+3) = 22 points after five matches.

Good Luck!
