There are somethings we look forward to eagerly. The anticipation is mouth watering. The promise it holds, the great things to be achieved, the ‘doh’ and the ‘yes’ moments.
The time of the year? The ‘Memorial Day Weekend’.
The event around the corner? The MPL Player’s Auction
The MPL 2013 season is just around the corner. And to answer all your questions, here we go:
Q) When and where is the MPL 2013 Player’s Auction?
A) 5:30 PM to 7 PM, June 11th 2013, in the IIT conference room.
Q) How many teams will we have in the MPL this year?
A) Four: ‘Incredibles’, ‘Avengers’, ‘X-Men’, ‘Justice League’
Q) Who will captain the four teams?
A) The captains for each team, will be selected by the respective team. (Huh!)
Q) Do teams retain their squad from the previous season?
A) No and yes! The captain, from the MPL 2012 season, for each of the four teams, stay’s with the team for the MPL 2013 season. Further, he selects three other player’s to retain from the 2012 squad, thus giving each ‘super’ team their own ‘Fantastic Four’.
Q) How much money do teams get for the Player’s Auction?
A) At this time, assuming each team has four player’s heading to the Player’s Auction, will be allocated a purse of $100.
Q) When do teams have to decide and announce their ‘Fantastic Four’?
A) Teams have till 1 PM on June 5th 2013, to announce the members of their ‘Fantastic Four’. This provide’s sufficient time for each team to study the pool of player’s available for the Player’s Auction, and plan as required.
Q) So again, who will captain the four teams?
A) The captain is either a member of the ‘Fantastic Four’ for that team, or a ‘regular super’ bought through the Player’s Auction.
Q) What are the details, more specifically dates and number of round-robin matches, on the MPL season?
A) The MPL season may start in the last week of June – a week earlier than regular – and extend through to the end of August. The dates, number of matches each team plays in the round-robin format, will be clearer around the Player’s Auction – we are awaiting the official response for our permit request for Sargent Field.
Q) Is the playoff format changing, or does it stay the same as it was last year?
A) The playoff format is changing for MPL 2013.
- The team that finishes the round-robin format in the first spot, in the points-table, claims one of the two spots in the MPL 2013 Final.
- The second spot in the MPL 2013 Final will be decided through a one-off eliminator, played between the teams that finish the round-robin in the second and third spots, in the points-table.
- The team that finishes the round-robin in the fourth spot is eliminated from the MPL.
Q) Is there anything else new in the MPL this season?
A) Yes. We will have ‘Power Plays’, in plural! Each inning will open with a mandatory three over power play. In addition, the batting team gets another two overs of power play between overs six and eleven. If by the start of the tenth over, the second power play has not been opted for, the second power play kicks in at the start of the eleventh over.
Q) What happens in the power play?
A) During the power-play overs, two things happen:
- Only three fielders are allowed on the leg side of the batsman on strike.
- Only one fielder is allowed past the stumps at the non-striker’s end.
